Dewey Mountain Recreation Center, a mile west of downtown Saranac Lake on Route 3, has 15 kilometers of groomed skate-ski trail, lights for night skiing, plus several km of backcountry trail to the summit. Snowshoers have more than 5 km to explore.
Dewey is where 2010 Olympic gold medalist Billy Demong and 2009 World Cup leader Tim Burke learned to ski. Expert hills hone your skills on 440 feet of vertical drop. There are easy loops for beginners plus ski and snowshoe rentals in the base lodge. Visit the web site for hours and trail map. A day pass is $3. www.DeweySkiCenter.com
