Original Cure Bed from Trudeau Sanatorium

Saranac  Lake -  a Wellness Community

In 2006 the village was named as one of the "Dozen Distinctive Destinations" by the National Trust for Historic Preservation.  The historical significance of Saranac Lake is largely due to its wellness legacy.

In 1876 Dr Edward Livingston Trudeau arrived to treat his own tuberculosis and in 1884 he founded his Adirondack Cottage Sanatorium at the base of Mount Pisgah. The Doctor’s Inn sits adjacent to this historic site and at one time was incorporated in its campus.

The effect of the hundreds of patients and doctors from all over the world who came to live in the village, many of them prominent in business, literature, science or another field, many of whom stayed for years, cannot be overestimated.

The growth of Saranac Lake as a wellness community harkens back to this auspicious beginning. And today  this tradition is alive and vibrant.  Today, a broad range of services and activities are available to help enhance your health and well-being. Whether you come to seek out a professional for one-on-one personal attention, or simply to immerse yourself in the majestic mountains, gorgeous lakes and fresh air, the Saranac Lake region is the perfect setting for your rejuvenation.

Our guests can take advantage of these services with the massage therapists, yoga instructors, mindfulness coaches and other healing practitioners either at their studios or by having a private session at the Doctor’s Inn. Let us guide you in a choice that will fit your particular desires.
